Spencer's 10th Birthday

Today is Spencer's birthday.

I have a funny story about the day he was born. I took the day off of work and headed down to Tacoma where Mark and Taunya were living. I hung out with Makenna and Robby for a few hours then headed over to the hospital at around 11am.

I sat there all day long, waiting. I had never been present for the birth of a niece or nephew and was determined to see this one through. I stayed there all day and long into the night. I had to work the next day and was staring at a long drive home, so I took off when it became clearly that he wasn't going to arrive anytime soon.

From what I learned the next day, the little guy popped out before I was even out of the parking lot. That was his style though, and he pretty much always did things on his own time and by his own rules.

I just wanted you to know that a few of us celebrated Spencer's birthday. I was a teacher's aide in his last two years of school and he and I had a friendship I will never forget. Since school has started I think of him every day for a different reason or another. My 9 year old son knew him also. We miss him terribly as I'm sure you all do. So on Monday I remembered it would have been his birthday. So I got a bunch of balloons. About 7 of his closest friends and a few of their moms, and me and my family and his last two teachers signed little cards to him. We attached them to the balloons. We sang him Happy Birthday and let them go. We talked about how we were all a little jealous that he was in Heaven without us having a huge birthday party. So Happy Birthday Spencer! We all miss you! Love, Mrs. Massey
